Major Change to UK Entry Process for Work and Study Visa Holders

The Home Office has formally announced a substantial update impacting individuals applying for UK work and study visas from overseas. Effective 15 July 2025, successful primary applicants on specific visa routes will no longer be issued a visa vignette (sticker in their passport) as proof of their authorization to enter the UK.

Applicants will now exclusively receive an eVisa, accessible via their UKVI account. This represents a significant advancement in the digital transformation of the UK immigration system and follows previous announcements about the discontinuation of Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs) for international travel.

Which visa routes are affected?

As of now, the following routes are subject to this change:

  • Skilled Worker, including Health and Care Worker

  • Global Business Mobility

  • International Sportsperson

  • Temporary Worker (excluding Seasonal Worker)

This applies only to main applicants who complete and pay for their visa application on or after 15 July 2025. Dependants applying on these routes will continue to receive both a visa vignette and an eVisa for the time being.

What is an eVisa?

An eVisa is an electronic record of your UK immigration status. It replaces physical proof such as a visa vignette or BRP and is securely linked to your passport and UKVI account.

Applicants must create a UKVI account and link their passport in order to access, view, and share their eVisa with authorities such as employers, landlords, or airlines.

Travelling to the UK? Here's what you must do

  1. Create a UKVI account

    www.gov.uk/evisa

  2. Link their current passport to the account

  3. Access and check their eVisa immediately

➤ If you find any errors, report them at www.gov.uk/report-error-evisa

  4. Learn how to generate and use an eVisa share code

➤ Useful for employers, landlords, and airlines to verify your status

A reminder about BRP cards

From 2 June 2025, Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs) will no longer be accepted as proof of immigration status for international travel. Anyone travelling outside the UK must ensure they can access and share their eVisa online instead.
